Photosho Magazine Issue #1 will hit the shelves in 4-6 weeks but maybe you should just pre-order your copy now. Why all the fuss? Well, not only is my photo, "Red Boots" appearing the magazine, but you will also save $2 of the list price and help kickoff a worthy independent publication that showcases Canadian artists. In addition, since this in the inaugural issue, there will only be a limited production run. So check it out!
The red boots are those of Canadian singer/songwriter's Katie Ormiston and they serve as an icon of the band, Pawnshop Diamond. As you may have guessed by now, Pawnshop Diamond is a client of Waxy Photography. On January 25, 2007, I was on hand at Vancouver's Railway Club to photograph the indie band's live performance during their self-titled CD release party.
You can check out Pawnshop Diamond at their
MySpace page, and please also visit the
Photosho Magazine Website to pre-order Issue #1.
Congrats, Katie, to you and your boots for their second 15 minutes of fame.
All the best!

The check came last week, but to be honest, I am more excited to see my photograph in the latest issue of the Boston Review Magazine. Though I have been published before, what makes me so happy now is that this is an esteemed magazine for not only its forward thinking articles -- but also
art.
Turning to page 27 is my photograph called "After School Special." It was taken in November, 2006 while I was working in Guadalajara, Mexíco. It is an image from my Street Photography collection. After School Special accompanies an editorial piece by Maureen N. McLane called "The Crucible: What’s at stake in the sex-ed wars." It is a history of the debate over sex education in schools.
The
Boston Review was nominated for a 2006 Utne Independent Press Award in the category of Best Writing. If you get a chance, go to your local newsstand and maybe you can find a copy or two. It is on display til March 7.
